Geometry
Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the sizes, shapes, positions angles and dimensions of things. Flat shapes like squares, circles, and triangles are a part of flat geometry and are called 2D shapes. These shapes have only 2 dimensions, the length and the width.
History of Geometry[edit | edit source]
Geometry was first recorded in ancient Egypt and Babylon. At around 600 BC, the Greeks began a formal study of geometry. Pythagoras and Euclid are two of the most famous Greek geometers.
Types of Geometry[edit | edit source]
There are several types of geometry, including:
- Euclidean geometry
- Differential geometry
- Non-Euclidean geometry
- Topology
- Analytic geometry
- Algebraic geometry
Applications of Geometry[edit | edit source]
Geometry is used in many fields, including art, architecture, physics, engineering, and space science.
