Georg von Oettingen
German-Baltic ophthalmologist and physiologist
Georg von Oettingen (1824–1916) was a prominent German-Baltic ophthalmologist and physiologist known for his contributions to the field of ophthalmology and his work in physiology. Georg von Oettingen was born on 22 March 1824 in Visusti, Governorate of Livonia, which was part of the Russian Empire. He belonged to the Baltic German nobility and was part of a family with a strong academic tradition. Oettingen pursued his medical studies at the University of Tartu, where he developed a keen interest in ophthalmology and physiology.
