Georges Gilles de la Tourette
Georges Gilles de la Tourette (1857–1904) was a French neurologist who is best known for first describing Tourette syndrome, a neurological condition characterized by motor and vocal tics.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Georges Gilles de la Tourette was born on October 30, 1857, in the small town of Saint-Gervais-les-Trois-Clochers, France. He studied medicine in Paris, where he developed an interest in neurology.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1885, Gilles de la Tourette published an article in the medical journal Archives de Neurologie describing nine patients with a condition he called "maladie des tics". This condition is now known as Tourette syndrome. Gilles de la Tourette's work was influenced by his mentor, Jean-Martin Charcot, a leading neurologist of the time.

Gilles de la Tourette's work has had a lasting impact on the field of neurology. His description of Tourette syndrome has led to a better understanding of the condition and has helped to improve the lives of those affected by it.
