Gerald Cardinale (February 27, 1934 – February 20, 2021) was an American politician who served as a member of the New Jersey Senate from 1982 until his death in 2021. Representing the 39th Legislative District, Cardinale was a member of the Republican Party. His legislative career spanned nearly four decades, making him one of the longest-serving state legislators in New Jersey history.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Gerald Cardinale was born in New York City, and he grew up in the borough of the Bronx. He pursued higher education at Fordham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his undergraduate studies, Cardinale attended the New York University College of Dentistry, receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Before entering politics, he established a dental practice in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where he worked for many years.

Cardinale's political career began in local government, where he served on the Demarest Borough Council from 1975 to 1977. He then served as the Mayor of Demarest from 1977 to 1981. His experience in local government laid the foundation for his long and influential career in state politics.
