Gerbrandt Grobler
Gerbrandt Grobler (born February 4, 1992, in Nelspruit, South Africa) is a South African rugby union player who primarily plays as a lock. Throughout his career, Grobler has played for several top-tier clubs in both the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Gerbrandt Grobler was born in Nelspruit, South Africa, and attended Hoërskool Nelspruit, where he first began playing rugby. His early exposure to the sport at a school known for its strong rugby program helped him develop his skills significantly.
Club Career[edit | edit source]
Grobler began his professional career with Western Province in 2012, where he quickly made a name for himself as a powerful and skilled lock. After several seasons with Western Province, he moved to Europe to join Racing 92 in France in 2015. His time in France was marked by strong performances, although his career faced challenges including a suspension for a doping violation.
After serving his suspension, Grobler signed with Munster in Ireland in 2016. His tenure at Munster was successful, helping the team reach the semifinals of the European Rugby Champions Cup. In 2018, Grobler moved to Gloucester Rugby in England, where he continued to impress with his play on the field.
In 2020, Grobler signed with Stade Français, returning to the French Top 14, where he continues to play.

In 2015, Grobler was suspended for two years after testing positive for a banned substance. This incident brought significant scrutiny and controversy, impacting his career and reputation. Grobler has since spoken about the experience, expressing regret and a commitment to playing clean.

Grobler is known for his height and strength, which make him an excellent lineout jumper and a formidable presence in the scrum. His agility and skills in open play also contribute significantly to his team's performance.
