Gil Morgan (born September 25, 1946) is an American professional golfer who has won numerous tournaments on both the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions, formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour. Morgan is known for his consistency on the course and his smooth, effective swing which has allowed him to remain competitive across several decades.

Early Life and Amateur Career[edit | edit source]

Gil Morgan was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in golf, honing his skills at local courses. He attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, where he played college golf and earned a degree in optometry, which led to him being sometimes nicknamed "Doc" on the tour.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

Morgan turned professional in 1972, embarking on a career that would see him achieve significant success on the PGA Tour. He won his first PGA Tour event at the 1977 Kemper Open, setting the stage for a career that would include multiple wins.

Throughout the 1980s, Morgan consistently performed well, adding several more victories to his name. However, it was after turning 50 and joining the Senior PGA Tour (now PGA Tour Champions) that Morgan found a new level of success. He quickly became one of the dominant players on the tour, winning numerous events and competing at the top level into his 60s.
