Gin Sour is a traditional cocktail that is part of the sour family of mixed drinks. It is a combination of gin, lemon juice, and sugar, often garnished with a cherry and an orange slice.

The Gin Sour is a traditional mixed drink that predates Prohibition in the United States of America. It is a simple combination of gin, lemon juice, and sugar. The Gin Sour is a progenitor of the Tom Collins, which came about after the invention of carbonated water.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

The Gin Sour is prepared by combining 2 oz of gin, 3/4 oz of fresh lemon juice, and 1/2 oz of simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. The ingredients are then shaken with ice and strained into a chilled cocktail glass. The drink is typically garnished with a cherry and an orange slice.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are several variations of the Gin Sour, including the French 75, which adds Champagne, and the Bramble, which adds blackberry liqueur and fresh blackberries. Another popular variation is the Aviation, which adds maraschino liqueur and crème de violette.
