Gizmodo is a design, technology, science, and science fiction website that also writes articles on politics. It was originally launched as part of the Gawker Media network in 2002. Gizmodo is known for its in-depth coverage of the latest gadgets, technology trends, and scientific discoveries.

Gizmodo was founded by Peter Rojas in 2002. It was one of the first websites to focus on technology and gadget news, quickly gaining popularity among tech enthusiasts. In 2004, Rojas left Gizmodo to start Engadget, another technology blog.
In 2005, Gizmodo was acquired by Gawker Media, a blog network founded by Nick Denton. Under Gawker Media, Gizmodo expanded its coverage to include not only gadgets but also broader technology and science topics.
In 2016, Gawker Media was acquired by Univision Communications, and Gizmodo became part of the newly formed Gizmodo Media Group.

One of the most notable incidents in Gizmodo's history was the iPhone 4 prototype leak in 2010. Gizmodo obtained a prototype of the iPhone 4, which had been left in a bar by an Apple engineer. The site published detailed photos and information about the device, leading to a legal dispute with Apple Inc..
Ownership Changes[edit | edit source]
After the acquisition by Univision, Gizmodo Media Group was later sold to Great Hill Partners in 2019, becoming part of G/O Media.
