Gordon James Klingenschmitt (born June 5, 1968) is an American politician and former military chaplain. He served as a Republican member of the Colorado House of Representatives, representing the 15th district from 2015 to 2017.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Klingenschmitt was born in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended the Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Military career[edit | edit source]

Klingenschmitt served as a chaplain in the United States Navy. During his service, he was involved in a high-profile case regarding the right to pray publicly in Jesus' name, which led to his discharge from the Navy.

Political career[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Klingenschmitt was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives for the 15th district. During his tenure, he was known for his conservative views and controversial statements. He did not seek re-election in 2016.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Klingenschmitt is married to Mary Klingenschmitt, and they have one child. He is also an ordained minister and runs a ministry called "Pray in Jesus Name."
