Gousto

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Gousto is a British meal kit retailer, founded in London in 2012 by Timo Boldt and James Carter. The company provides a subscription service that delivers meal kits to customers' homes. Each kit contains pre-measured ingredients and a recipe card, allowing customers to cook meals at home without the need for meal planning or grocery shopping.

History[edit | edit source]

Timo Boldt and James Carter founded Gousto in 2012. The idea for the company came from Boldt's personal experience of struggling to find time to cook and eat healthy meals while working in the finance industry. The company initially operated from Boldt's home before moving to a larger facility in Spalding, Lincolnshire.

In 2013, Gousto received its first major investment from Angel CoFund, a UK-based venture capital firm. This investment allowed the company to expand its operations and increase its customer base.

Business Model[edit | edit source]

Gousto operates on a subscription-based model. Customers choose from a variety of recipes each week, and Gousto delivers the ingredients and recipe cards to their homes. The ingredients are pre-measured to reduce food waste, and the recipes are designed to be easy to follow, even for novice cooks.

The company offers a range of meal options, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free choices. Customers can also choose from a variety of portion sizes, from meals for two to family-sized options.

Reception and Impact[edit | edit source]

Gousto has been well-received by customers and critics alike. The company has won several awards for its service, including the TechCrunch Europe's "Best E-Commerce Startup" in 2013 and the Retail Week's "Start-Up of the Year" in 2014.

The company's focus on reducing food waste has also been praised. By providing pre-measured ingredients, Gousto helps to eliminate the waste that often comes from buying more food than is needed for a recipe.
