Government of Lagos State

Government of Lagos State is the political machinery under which Lagos State of Nigeria functions. The government is responsible for the public administration of the state. The Governor of Lagos State is the head of the state government and is elected by the people. The government's structure is split into three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial.

Executive Branch[edit | edit source]

The Executive Branch of the Lagos State Government is headed by the Governor. The Governor is the chief executive of the state and is responsible for the implementation of laws passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly. The Governor is assisted by the Deputy Governor and the Executive Council, which consists of Commissioners and Special Advisers.

Legislative Branch[edit | edit source]

The Legislative Branch is the Lagos State House of Assembly. The House of Assembly is responsible for making laws for the good governance of Lagos State. It consists of elected representatives from each of the local government areas in the state.

Judicial Branch[edit | edit source]

The Judicial Branch is responsible for interpreting the laws of Lagos State. It is headed by the Chief Judge of Lagos State. The judiciary also includes the Lagos State High Court, the Lagos State Magistrates' Court, and the Customary Court.

Local Government[edit | edit source]

Lagos State is divided into 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Each LGA is governed by a Local Government Council consisting of a Chairman who is the Chief Executive of the LGA, and other elected members who are referred to as Councillors. Each LGA is further divided into wards.

Ministries[edit | edit source]

The Lagos State Government operates several ministries, each responsible for specific policy areas. These include the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, and Ministry of Housing, among others.
