- Grangeville's history dates back to the late 19th century when it was established as a farming and ranching community. The city's name is derived from the Grange Hall, a social and advocacy group for farmers that was prominent in the area during the late 1800s.

- Grangeville is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 95 and State Highway 13. The city is approximately 1,700 feet above sea level and is surrounded by the Nez Perce National Forest.
