Grapher
Grapher is a graphing calculator application developed by Apple Inc. for macOS. It is used to create 2D and 3D graphs from mathematical equations and data sets. Grapher is included with macOS and is located in the Utilities folder within the Applications directory.
Features[edit | edit source]
Grapher supports a wide range of mathematical functions and operations, including:
- Polynomials
- Trigonometric functions
- Logarithms
- Exponential functions
- Differential equations
- Parametric equations
- Implicit functions
2D Graphing[edit | edit source]
In 2D graphing mode, users can plot equations on a Cartesian plane. Grapher allows for customization of graph appearance, including line styles, colors, and labels. Users can also add annotations and perform calculations such as finding intersections and calculating integrals.
3D Graphing[edit | edit source]
Grapher's 3D graphing capabilities enable users to visualize complex surfaces and solids. It supports various coordinate systems, including Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Users can rotate, zoom, and pan the 3D graphs to examine them from different angles.
Usage[edit | edit source]
Grapher is commonly used by students, educators, and professionals in fields such as mathematics, engineering, and physics. It serves as a powerful tool for visualizing mathematical concepts and solving complex equations.
History[edit | edit source]
Grapher was originally developed by a company called VVI and was known as "Graphing Calculator." Apple acquired the software and integrated it into macOS starting with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
