Greensboro, Vermont

Greensboro, Vermont is a town located in Orleans County, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, United States. The town was named for Timothy Green, one of the original land proprietors.

Greensboro was chartered in 1781 to Timothy Green and 64 associates. The town was named for Green, who was a land surveyor. The first settlers arrived in 1787 and the town was organized in 1792.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Greensboro is located in the northeastern part of Orleans County. The town is characterized by rolling hills and a number of ponds, the largest of which is Caspians Lake. The town is also home to a portion of the Green Mountain National Forest.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Greensboro is largely based on agriculture, with dairy farming being the predominant industry. The town is also home to the Jasper Hill Farm, a nationally recognized producer of artisanal cheese. In addition, Greensboro is known for the Hill Farmstead Brewery, which has been named the best brewery in the world multiple times.

Education in Greensboro is provided by the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union. The town has one school, the Greensboro Elementary School, which serves students in grades K-6. High school students attend the Hazen Union High School in neighboring Hardwick.
Notable people[edit | edit source]
Several notable people have called Greensboro home, including author David Budbill, and Wilfred Grenfell, a medical missionary to Labrador and Newfoundland.
