The Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) serves as a global hub for organizations and professionals dedicated to the development and implementation of evidence-based medical guidelines. By promoting standardized practices and facilitating international collaboration, the network aims to improve health outcomes worldwide by minimizing inappropriate variations in healthcare delivery.

History

The idea for G-I-N sprouted from the efforts of the international AGREE Collaboration, which was established to ensure the quality of clinical practice guidelines. In early 2002, at the inaugural international guideline conference in Berlin, Germany, guideline experts expressed the need for globally standardized guideline methodologies and improved channels for knowledge sharing. Recognizing the importance of such a network, various international health organizations, including the AHRQ (USA), CBO (NL), the German Agency for Quality in Medicine, NICE (UK), SIGN (UK), and NZGG (NZ), endorsed the proposal. Consequently, G-I-N was founded in November 2002 in Paris, with Günter Ollenschläger appointed as its founding chairman.

Membership and Organisation

As of October 2012, G-I-N's roster includes over 100 institutions operating in the domain of medical guidelines, as well as individual experts from approximately 48 nations across all continents. Established as a Scottish Guarantee Company (Company Number SC243691), G-I-N also holds the status of a Scottish Charity, recognized under the Scottish Charity Number SC034047.

Mission and Aims

The network's overarching objective is to bolster collaboration and advancements within the guideline community, covering aspects of development, adaptation, and implementation. The primary missions of G-I-N encompass:

Each year, G-I-N hosts its flagship event, the G-I-N Conference, in various international locations. Previous conferences were held in cities like Edinburgh, Wellington, Lyon, Toronto, Helsinki, Lisbon, Chicago, Seoul, Berlin, and San Francisco.
