Guthrie County, Iowa
Guthrie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,954. The county seat is Guthrie Center. The county was formed on January 15, 1851 and named after Captain Edwin B. Guthrie, who had died in the Mexican–American War.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Guthrie County is located in the southwestern part of Iowa, with its county seat in Guthrie Center. The county's total area is 593 square miles, of which 591 square miles is land and 2.1 square miles is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, there were 10,954 people, 4,449 households, and 3,013 families residing in the county. The population density was 18.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. 1.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
