H. P. Bulmer
H. P. Bulmer is a British cider-making company founded in 1887 in Hereford, England. The company is known for producing a variety of cider brands, including the well-known Strongbow and Bulmers.
History[edit | edit source]
H. P. Bulmer was established by Henry Percival Bulmer, who started the business using apples from the orchard at his father's farm. The company quickly grew, and by the early 20th century, it had become one of the largest cider producers in the world.
In 1911, H. P. Bulmer was granted a Royal Warrant by King George V, which allowed the company to supply cider to the royal household. This prestigious recognition helped to solidify Bulmer's reputation as a leading cider producer.
Products[edit | edit source]
H. P. Bulmer produces a range of cider products, including:
- Strongbow: A dry cider that is one of the best-selling ciders in the world.
- Bulmers: A range of ciders that includes various flavors and styles.
- Woodpecker: A sweeter cider that is popular in the UK and abroad.
Production[edit | edit source]
The company's main production facility is located in Hereford, where it has been based since its founding. The facility includes extensive orchards, fermentation tanks, and bottling lines. H. P. Bulmer uses a combination of traditional cider-making techniques and modern technology to produce its ciders.
Acquisition[edit | edit source]
In 2003, H. P. Bulmer was acquired by Scottish & Newcastle, a major brewing company. This acquisition allowed Bulmer to expand its distribution network and increase its market share. In 2008, Scottish & Newcastle was itself acquired by Heineken, making H. P. Bulmer a part of one of the largest brewing companies in the world.
