Haggen

Haggen is a grocery store chain based in Bellingham, Washington. It was founded in 1933 by Ben and Dorothy Haggen and has since grown to become one of the largest independent grocery store chains in the Pacific Northwest.

History[edit | edit source]

The first Haggen store was opened in Bellingham in 1933. The store was initially a small, local grocery store, but it quickly grew in popularity due to its focus on quality products and customer service. Over the years, Haggen expanded its operations, opening stores in other parts of Washington, as well as in Oregon, California, and Arizona.

In 2015, Haggen acquired a number of stores from the Albertsons and Safeway chains. However, the expansion proved to be too rapid and the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy later that year. The company was eventually able to recover and continues to operate stores in Washington and Oregon.

Products and Services[edit | edit source]

Haggen offers a wide range of products, including fresh produce, meat and seafood, bakery items, and a large selection of grocery items. The store also offers specialty items, such as organic and gluten-free products.

In addition to its grocery offerings, Haggen also provides a number of services to its customers. These include a pharmacy, a floral department, and a deli. Some stores also have a Starbucks kiosk inside.

Community Involvement[edit | edit source]

Haggen is known for its commitment to the communities it serves. The company regularly donates to local charities and sponsors community events. It also has a program called "Haggen to Go," which offers home delivery and curbside pickup for customers.
