- Hale County is a county located in the west central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,564. Its county seat is Greensboro. It is named in honor of Confederate officer Stephen Fowler Hale.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Hale County is located in the Black Belt region of west central Alabama. It is bordered by Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Perry, Dallas, Marengo, and Greene counties. The county has a total area of 657 square miles, of which 643 square miles is land and 14 square miles is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
- As of the 2020 census, there were 14,564 people, 5,467 households, and 3,663 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 59.0% Black or African American, 39.8% White, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 0.4% from two or more races. 1.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
