Halle Berry is an American actress and former fashion model. She is one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Halle Maria Berry was born on August 14, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the daughter of Judith Ann, a psychiatric nurse, and Jerome Jesse Berry, a hospital attendant. Berry was raised in Oakwood, Ohio, and attended Bedford High School, where she was a cheerleader, honor student, and prom queen.

Berry began her career as a model and entered several beauty contests, finishing as the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and coming in sixth in the Miss World 1986. Her acting career began in television with a role in the series "Living Dolls" in 1989.

Berry's breakthrough film role was in "Jungle Fever" (1991), directed by Spike Lee. She gained further recognition for her role in "Boomerang" (1992), alongside Eddie Murphy.

Academy Award and Continued Success[edit | edit source]

In 2001, Berry won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in "Monster's Ball," becoming the first African American woman to win the award. She continued to star in a variety of films, including "Die Another Day" (2002), "Gothika" (2003), and "Catwoman" (2004).

Her third marriage was to actor Olivier Martinez, with whom she has a son, from 2013 to 2016. Berry also has a daughter from a previous relationship with model Gabriel Aubry.
