Hargovind Laxmishanker Trivedi
Hargovind Laxmishanker Trivedi (31 August 1932 – 2 October 2019) was a renowned Indian nephrologist and transplant surgeon. He was instrumental in advancing the field of nephrology and kidney transplantation in India. Trivedi was the founding director of the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) and the Institute of Transplantation Sciences (ITS) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Hargovind Laxmishanker Trivedi was born on 31 August 1932 in Gujarat, India. He pursued his medical education at the B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, where he developed a keen interest in nephrology and transplantation. Trivedi furthered his studies in the United States, where he gained extensive training in kidney transplantation techniques.
Career[edit | edit source]
Trivedi returned to India with a vision to establish a comprehensive kidney care and transplantation center. In 1981, he founded the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad. Under his leadership, the institute became a premier center for nephrology and transplantation in India, offering state-of-the-art facilities and pioneering research.
Trivedi was known for his dedication to patient care and his efforts to make kidney transplantation accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status. He was instrumental in developing protocols that improved the success rates of kidney transplants in India.
