Harry is a medical doctor and an officer in the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT), an international military organization that defends Earth from extraterrestrial threats.
Character History[edit | edit source]
Harry Sullivan first appears in the serial "Robot", which is the first story of the Fourth Doctor era. He is introduced as a medical officer assigned to UNIT, working alongside the Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. Harry becomes a companion to the Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker, and travels with him and Sarah Jane Smith in the TARDIS.
Role in Doctor Who[edit | edit source]
Harry's character is depicted as brave, loyal, and somewhat bumbling, often providing comic relief. Despite his occasional clumsiness, he proves to be a valuable ally to the Doctor and Sarah Jane. He appears in several serials, including:
- "Robot"
- The Ark in Space
- The Sontaran Experiment
- Genesis of the Daleks
- Revenge of the Cybermen
- Terror of the Zygons
- The Android Invasion
Harry's final regular appearance is in "The Android Invasion," after which he returns to his duties at UNIT. He makes a brief cameo in the serial The Seeds of Doom.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Harry Sullivan is remembered as one of the more endearing companions of the Fourth Doctor. His character's blend of courage and humor left a lasting impression on fans of the series. Ian Marter, who portrayed Harry, also contributed to the Doctor Who universe by writing several novelizations of the series' episodes.
