Harsh Vardhan
Harsh Vardhan (born 13 December 1954) is an Indian politician and medical doctor who has served in various capacities in the Indian government, including as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been a prominent figure in Indian politics, particularly in the field of public health.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Harsh Vardhan was born in Delhi, India. He pursued his medical education at the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College in Kanpur, where he earned his MBBS degree. He later completed his Master of Surgery (MS) in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from the same institution.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Harsh Vardhan practiced as an ENT surgeon. His medical background has significantly influenced his political career, particularly in his roles related to health and family welfare.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Harsh Vardhan entered politics as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 1993 and served as the Minister of Health in the Government of Delhi. During his tenure, he launched the "Polio Eradication Plan" in Delhi, which was instrumental in the eventual eradication of polio in India.

In 2014, Harsh Vardhan was appointed as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the Narendra Modi government. During his tenure, he focused on various public health initiatives, including the promotion of traditional medicine and the implementation of the National Health Policy.
