Hartley County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,062. The county seat is Channing. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1891. It is named for Oliver C. Hartley and his brother, Rufus K. Hartley, early Texas lawyers and lawmakers.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Hartley County is located in the Texas Panhandle region. The county has a total area of 1,463 square miles, of which 1,462 square miles is land and 1.2 square miles is water. The county is bordered by Dallam County to the north, Moore County to the east, Oldham County to the south, and Union County, New Mexico to the west.
