Hawksmoor (restaurant)
Hawksmoor (restaurant) is a British steakhouse and cocktail bar chain, founded by childhood friends Will Beckett and Huw Gott in 2006. The first restaurant was opened in Spitalfields, London, and the chain has since expanded to include multiple locations across the UK and one in New York City.
History[edit | edit source]
Hawksmoor was established in 2006 by Will Beckett and Huw Gott, who had previously run a pub together in North London. The name "Hawksmoor" was inspired by the architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, who designed the nearby Christ Church, Spitalfields.
The first Hawksmoor restaurant was opened in a former warehouse in Spitalfields, which was refurbished to create a stylish and comfortable dining environment. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality British beef and innovative cocktails, and was named the best steakhouse in London by Time Out magazine in 2007.
Following the success of the Spitalfields restaurant, Hawksmoor opened additional locations in Seven Dials, Air Street, Knightsbridge, Guildhall, and Borough in London, as well as in Manchester, Edinburgh, and New York City.
Menu[edit | edit source]
Hawksmoor's menu focuses on steak, but also includes a range of other dishes such as seafood, poultry, and vegetarian options. The beef used in the restaurant is sourced from British farms, and is dry-aged for a minimum of 35 days to enhance its flavour and tenderness.
The restaurant is also known for its extensive cocktail menu, which features both classic and original creations. The wine list includes a selection of wines from around the world, with a particular emphasis on Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Hawksmoor has received positive reviews from critics and customers alike. It has been praised for its high-quality food, friendly service, and stylish decor. The restaurant has also won numerous awards, including the Observer Food Monthly Award for Best Sunday Lunch in 2013.
