Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Heather Bresch grew up in Fairmont, West Virginia. She is the daughter of Joe Manchin, a prominent political figure who has served as the Governor of West Virginia and a U.S. Senator. Bresch earned her undergraduate degree in international relations and political science from West Virginia University (WVU).
Career[edit | edit source]
Bresch's career at Mylan began in 1992 in the company's basement as a data entry clerk. Over the years, she climbed the corporate ladder, holding various positions within the company, including chief operating officer before becoming CEO. As CEO, Bresch focused on expanding Mylan's global presence and was instrumental in several acquisitions that broadened the company's portfolio of medications.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
Bresch's tenure at Mylan was not without controversy. One of the most notable was the significant price increase of the EpiPen, an auto-injector used to treat severe allergic reactions. The price hike led to widespread public and political backlash, with Bresch being called to testify before Congress in 2016. Additionally, questions were raised about Bresch's MBA from West Virginia University, leading to an investigation that concluded some of her coursework requirements had been waived.
