Heather Michele O'Rourke was born on December 27, 1975, in San Diego, California. She was the daughter of Kathleen and Michael O'Rourke. Heather had an older sister named Tammy O'Rourke, who was also involved in acting.

Career[edit | edit source]

Heather O'Rourke began her acting career at a young age. She was discovered by director Steven Spielberg while visiting the MGM studios with her mother and sister. Spielberg cast her in the role of Carol Anne Freeling in the 1982 horror film Poltergeist. Her performance in the film was highly praised, and she became known for her iconic line, "They're here!"

Following the success of Poltergeist, Heather reprised her role as Carol Anne in the sequels Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) and Poltergeist III (1988). She also appeared in several television shows, including Happy Days, Webster, and The New Leave It to Beaver.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Heather O'Rourke was known for her bright personality and professionalism on set. Despite her young age, she was dedicated to her craft and was well-liked by her co-stars and crew members.

Illness and Death[edit | edit source]

In early 1987, Heather began experiencing health issues, which were initially misdiagnosed as Crohn's disease. On January 31, 1988, she became ill and was rushed to the hospital. She underwent surgery for a bowel obstruction, but complications arose, and she passed away on February 1, 1988, at the age of 12.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Heather O'Rourke's untimely death shocked her fans and the entertainment industry. She is remembered for her memorable performances and her contribution to the Poltergeist series. Her legacy continues to be celebrated by fans of the horror genre.
