Heineken N.V. is a Dutch multinational brewing company, founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken in Amsterdam. As of 2023, Heineken owns over 165 breweries in more than 70 countries and employs approximately 85,000 people. It is one of the largest brewers in the world.

Heineken was established in 1864 when Gerard Adriaan Heineken purchased the De Hooiberg brewery in Amsterdam. The company expanded rapidly, and by 1886, Dr. H. Elion, a student of Louis Pasteur, developed the Heineken A-yeast, which is still used in the brewing process today.

Heineken N.V. produces a variety of beers, including its flagship Heineken Lager Beer, which is known for its distinctive green bottle and red star. Other notable products include Amstel, Desperados, and Affligem. The company also produces cider under the Strongbow brand.
