Helen Parsons
Helen Parsons (1901–1985) was a notable Canadian artist and educator. She is best known for her contributions to the development of art in Newfoundland and Labrador and her role in founding the Memorial University of Newfoundland's Extension Service's Art Department.

Helen Parsons was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She showed an early interest in art and pursued her studies at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. During her time at the college, she studied under prominent artists such as Arthur Lismer and J.E.H. MacDonald, who were members of the Group of Seven.

After completing her education, Parsons returned to Newfoundland and Labrador where she began her career as an artist and educator. She played a significant role in the local art community, helping to establish the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In 1951, Parsons was instrumental in founding the Art Department at the Memorial University of Newfoundland's Extension Service. She served as the head of the department for many years, where she influenced a generation of young artists and promoted the development of the arts in the region.
