Helicis minor
(Redirected from Helicis minor muscle)
Helicis minor is a small muscle of the ear. It arises from the Spine of Helix, and its fibers converge, to be inserted into the anterior margin of the Helix.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The term "Helicis minor" is derived from the Latin word "Helix", which means "spiral". The term "minor" is used to denote the smaller size of this muscle compared to the Helicis major, another muscle of the ear.
Structure[edit | edit source]
The Helicis minor is a small muscle located in the outer ear. It originates from the Spine of Helix and inserts into the anterior margin of the Helix. This muscle is responsible for the slight movement of the ear, although its function is not well understood.
Function[edit | edit source]
The exact function of the Helicis minor is not well understood. However, it is believed to play a role in the movement of the ear, particularly in response to sound. Some studies suggest that the Helicis minor may help in the localization of sound, although this is not definitively proven.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Due to its small size and minor role in ear function, the Helicis minor is not typically involved in any major medical conditions. However, any damage or injury to this muscle could potentially affect the movement of the ear.
