Hoima Specialized Referral Hospital

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Hoima Specialized Referral Hospital (HSRH), also known as St. Mary's Children and Women Specialized Hospital, is a proposed private faith-based community hospital located in the city of Hoima, Uganda. The hospital is being developed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hoima to provide specialized care in areas such as maternity, pediatrics, and gynecology. It aims to alleviate the burden on Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, which is currently overwhelmed by the high number of patients seeking medical attention.

The hospital is expected to be built on a 7-acre plot of land in the Bujumbura neighborhood of Hoima City. This location is in the western part of the city, within the Western Region of Uganda.

Hoima City has experienced rapid population growth due to the development of the oil industry in the area. As of 2020, the city had a population of approximately 122,000 people, with an annual growth rate of 3.54% between 2014 and 2020. The existing Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, with 317 beds, serves the entire Bunyoro sub-region and parts of the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, catering to a catchment area of nearly 3 million people.

The construction of Hoima Specialized Referral Hospital is estimated to cost USh40 billion (US$11 million). Once completed, the hospital will have a capacity of 272 beds. It aims to address the shortage of specialized medical services in Hoima and the surrounding areas.
