Hominid
Hominid refers to a family of primates, known as Hominidae, that includes humans and their fossil ancestors. The Hominidae family is also known as "great apes" and includes orangutans, gorillas, bonobos, and chimpanzees.

The classification of the Hominidae family has undergone various revisions. It is divided into two subfamilies: Ponginae, which includes orangutans, and Homininae, which includes humans, gorillas, and chimpanzees.
Ponginae[edit | edit source]
Ponginae is a subfamily that includes the orangutan and its ancestors. Orangutans are native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.
Homininae[edit | edit source]
Homininae is a subfamily that includes humans, gorillas, and chimpanzees. This subfamily is further divided into two tribes: Gorillini and Hominini.

Gorillini is a tribe that includes the gorilla and its ancestors.

Evolution[edit | edit source]
The evolution of hominids has been a topic of great interest and research. The earliest known hominids appeared around 5-8 million years ago. The evolutionary process led to the emergence of Homo sapiens, or modern humans, around 300,000 years ago.
