History[edit | edit source]

The monastery was founded in 1078 by Otto I of Olomouc and his wife Euphemia. It was initially established as a Benedictine monastery but was later taken over by the Premonstratensians in 1151. The monastery played a significant role in the religious and cultural life of the region.

During the Thirty Years' War, the monastery suffered significant damage. It was subsequently rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th century. The reconstruction was led by the architect Giovanni Pietro Tencalla, who was responsible for many of the Baroque buildings in Moravia.
