IL10 family
IL10 family is a group of cytokines that play a significant role in the immune system. This family includes several members, such as IL10, IL19, IL20, IL22, IL24, and IL26. These cytokines are involved in various immune responses, including inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.
Function[edit | edit source]
The IL10 family of cytokines are primarily involved in the regulation of immune response. They are produced by various types of cells, including T cells, B cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. These cytokines act by binding to specific receptors on the surface of target cells, triggering a cascade of intracellular signaling events that ultimately lead to changes in gene expression.
Members[edit | edit source]
IL10[edit | edit source]
IL10 is a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine that inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by macrophages and dendritic cells. It also promotes the development of regulatory T cells, which play a key role in maintaining immune tolerance.
IL19, IL20, IL24[edit | edit source]
IL19, IL20, and IL24 are closely related cytokines that are involved in the regulation of epithelial cell function. They are primarily produced by keratinocytes and play a role in skin homeostasis and wound healing.
IL22[edit | edit source]
IL22 is a cytokine that is primarily produced by T cells and natural killer cells. It acts on epithelial cells and plays a key role in mucosal immunity, particularly in the gut and lungs.
IL26[edit | edit source]
IL26 is a cytokine that is primarily produced by T cells. It has pro-inflammatory properties and is involved in the immune response to bacterial infections.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Dysregulation of the IL10 family of cytokines has been implicated in various diseases, including autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and cancer. As such, these cytokines are potential targets for therapeutic intervention.
