iPhone 6s is a smartphone designed by Apple Inc., as part of the iPhone series. It was announced on September 9, 2015, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco by Apple CEO Tim Cook. The iPhone 6s, along with the iPhone 6s Plus, serves as a successor to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and precedes the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This model introduced several key features and enhancements over its predecessors, including improved system and graphics performance, a new 3D Touch display technology, upgraded cameras, and a stronger chassis. The device was initially released with iOS 9, the ninth major release of Apple's iOS mobile operating system.

Design[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 6s retains the same design as the iPhone 6 but is constructed with 7000 series aluminum, which is stronger and more durable than the alloy used in previous models. It is available in four finishes: silver, gold, space gray, and rose gold. The device measures 138.3 mm (5.44 in) in height, 67.1 mm (2.64 in) in width, and 7.1 mm (0.28 in) in thickness, and weighs 143 grams (5.0 oz).

Features[edit | edit source]

3D Touch[edit | edit source]

One of the hallmark features of the iPhone 6s is 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive display technology that allows for new gestures called "Peek" and "Pop," enabling users to access content previews and shortcut actions by applying varying degrees of pressure to the screen.

Camera[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 6s features a 12-megapixel rear camera, capable of recording 4K video at 30 frames per second, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with Retina Flash for improved low-light selfies. The rear camera also supports Live Photos, a feature that captures 1.5 seconds of video before and after a photo is taken, bringing still images to life.

Performance[edit | edit source]

Powered by the Apple A9 chip, the iPhone 6s offers up to 70% faster CPU performance and up to 90% faster GPU performance compared to the A8 chip used in the iPhone 6. It also includes 2GB of RAM, an increase from the 1GB found in its predecessor, enhancing overall system performance and multitasking capabilities.

Software[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 6s originally shipped with iOS 9, which introduced a revamped Siri with proactive suggestions, a more intelligent search and improved multitasking features for iPads. Over its lifespan, the iPhone 6s has received multiple iOS updates, supporting the latest versions of the operating system and ensuring compatibility with new apps and features.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 6s received positive reviews from critics and consumers alike, who praised its improved performance, camera enhancements, and the introduction of 3D Touch. However, some criticized its battery life, which did not see significant improvement over the iPhone 6.
