Incredicoaster
Incredicoaster is a steel roller coaster located at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California. It is one of the park's most prominent attractions, situated in the Pixar Pier section. The coaster was originally opened in 2001 as California Screamin', but it was rethemed and reopened as Incredicoaster in 2018, incorporating characters and elements from Pixar's The Incredibles franchise.
History[edit | edit source]
The Incredicoaster's history begins with its original incarnation as California Screamin'. Designed to resemble a traditional wooden coaster but constructed entirely out of steel, it was one of the original attractions when Disney California Adventure Park opened. In 2018, as part of a larger effort to incorporate more Pixar properties into the park, California Screamin' was reimagined as the Incredicoaster. This transformation was aligned with the opening of Pixar Pier, a rethemed area dedicated to celebrating Pixar films and characters.
Design and Experience[edit | edit source]
The Incredicoaster is notable for its combination of traditional roller coaster elements with narrative storytelling, a hallmark of Disney theme park attractions. The ride features multiple high-speed launches, loops, and drops, making it one of the most thrilling attractions at Disney California Adventure. The coaster's trains are designed to evoke the sleek, retro-futuristic aesthetic associated with The Incredibles.
Riders are taken on a journey with the Parr family, the superheroes at the heart of The Incredibles, as they attempt to catch the elusive baby Jack-Jack, who manifests various powers throughout the ride. Audio-animatronic figures of the characters, along with special effects and music from the films, enhance the storytelling aspect of the coaster.
Technical Specifications[edit | edit source]
The Incredicoaster is approximately 6000 feet in length, making it one of the longest steel roller coasters in the world. It features a top speed of around 55 miles per hour and includes a loop that stands 120 feet tall. The ride's launch system uses linear induction motors to rapidly accelerate the train to its top speed.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Since its reimagining, the Incredicoaster has been well-received by both guests and critics. It is praised for its seamless integration of a beloved Pixar film with the thrills of a high-speed roller coaster. The attraction has also been noted for its appeal to both younger guests and adult thrill-seekers, embodying the Pixar Pier's goal of offering experiences that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
