InfraGard is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and members of the private sector. It is an information-sharing and analysis effort serving the interests and combining the knowledge base of a wide range of members. InfraGard is dedicated to the protection of United States critical infrastructure.

History[edit | edit source]

InfraGard was founded in 1996 as a collaborative effort between the FBI and private sector entities. The initiative was initially focused on the information technology sector but has since expanded to include members from various sectors of critical infrastructure, including energy, transportation, water supply, and emergency services.

Structure[edit | edit source]

InfraGard is organized into local chapters, each of which is affiliated with an FBI field office. These chapters facilitate the sharing of information and best practices among members. Each chapter is led by a board of directors, which includes representatives from both the private sector and the FBI.

Membership[edit | edit source]

Membership in InfraGard is open to individuals who are involved in the protection of critical infrastructure. This includes professionals from various industries, such as cybersecurity, law enforcement, emergency management, and public health. Members undergo a vetting process, which includes a background check conducted by the FBI.

Activities[edit | edit source]

InfraGard members participate in a variety of activities, including:

  • Information sharing: Members receive threat intelligence and other information from the FBI and other sources.
  • Training and education: InfraGard offers training sessions, webinars, and conferences on topics related to critical infrastructure protection.
  • Networking: Members have the opportunity to connect with other professionals in their field and share best practices.

Importance[edit | edit source]

InfraGard plays a crucial role in the protection of the United States' critical infrastructure. By fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, InfraGard helps to enhance the nation's ability to prevent, detect, and respond to threats.
