Ingutsheni Hospital is a public health care institution located in Belmont, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. It is the largest psychiatric hospital in Zimbabwe, specializing in providing psychiatric care to the community members.[3] The hospital was established in 1908 as a hospital for refugees and later converted into a psychiatric hospital in 1933.[4] It currently has over 700 beds and offers emergency services.[5]
History[edit | edit source]
Ingutsheni Hospital was established in 1908 as a hospital for refugees, primarily serving black people in Zimbabwe. White people were also temporarily assisted but were later deported or taken to South Africa if deemed to be suffering from lunacy.[6] In 1933, the hospital was converted into a psychiatric hospital and has since been dedicated to providing quality mental health care services to the people of Zimbabwe.
