International Medical School, University of Milan

The International Medical School (IMS) at the University of Milan is a public medical program taught entirely in English. Established to cater to both Italian and international students, the IMS is part of the larger Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan, one of Italy's most prestigious universities. The program aims to prepare students for the global healthcare environment, focusing on a wide range of medical knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Admission[edit | edit source]

Admission to the International Medical School at the University of Milan is highly competitive and is based on a selection process that includes an entrance examination. The test assesses the candidates' knowledge in various scientific subjects and their proficiency in English. Both Italian and international students must pass this examination to gain admission. The number of places available each year is limited, making the selection process rigorous.

Curriculum[edit | edit source]

The curriculum of the IMS is designed to provide a comprehensive education in medicine over a six-year course. The program is divided into pre-clinical and clinical phases. The first three years focus on basic sciences and pre-clinical studies, including subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy. During these years, students also begin to learn about the principles of medical ethics and patient care.

The latter three years are dedicated to clinical training, where students gain hands-on experience in various medical specialties. This phase includes rotations in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, and other fields. Clinical training takes place in hospitals and medical facilities affiliated with the University of Milan, providing students with the opportunity to work with patients under the supervision of experienced medical professionals.

Research and International Opportunities[edit | edit source]

The International Medical School emphasizes research and offers students opportunities to engage in scientific investigations. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects and can choose to work in one of the university's many research laboratories. Additionally, the IMS promotes international exchange programs, allowing students to spend part of their studies abroad. These opportunities are designed to expose students to different healthcare systems and medical practices around the world.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

Students at the International Medical School have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including modern laboratories, libraries, and study spaces. The medical school is also equipped with advanced simulation centers where students can practice clinical skills in a controlled environment before applying them in real-life settings.

Graduation and Career Prospects[edit | edit source]

Upon successful completion of the six-year program, graduates are awarded a Medical Degree, which is recognized across the European Union and in many countries worldwide. Graduates are eligible to enter residency programs to specialize in a particular field of medicine. The comprehensive education and international exposure provided by the IMS prepare graduates to work as physicians in various healthcare settings, both in Italy and abroad.
