International Tennis Integrity Agency

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) is an independent organization established to safeguard the integrity of professional tennis worldwide. The ITIA is responsible for enforcing the sport's anti-corruption and anti-doping programs, ensuring that tennis remains free from unethical practices and maintains a fair competitive environment.

History[edit | edit source]

The ITIA was founded in 2020, succeeding the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), which was originally established in 2008. The transition to the ITIA marked a significant step in enhancing the governance and operational independence of integrity efforts in tennis.

Functions[edit | edit source]

The ITIA's primary functions include:

  • Investigating and prosecuting breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
  • Administering the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP).
  • Educating players, coaches, and officials about the importance of integrity in tennis.
  • Collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other sports integrity bodies to combat corruption and doping.

Governance[edit | edit source]

The ITIA operates independently of the sport's governing bodies, including the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), and the Grand Slam Board. It is overseen by a board of directors comprising experts in sports integrity, law, and governance.

Key Programs[edit | edit source]

Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP)[edit | edit source]

The TACP is designed to prevent and address corruption in tennis. It includes rules and regulations that prohibit match-fixing, betting on tennis, and other forms of corruption. The ITIA conducts investigations and imposes sanctions on individuals found guilty of violating these rules.

Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP)[edit | edit source]

The TADP aims to ensure that tennis is free from performance-enhancing drugs. The ITIA administers drug testing, manages results, and handles cases of doping violations. The program is in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.

Education and Outreach[edit | edit source]

The ITIA places a strong emphasis on education and outreach to prevent integrity breaches. It provides resources and training for players, coaches, and officials to understand the risks and responsibilities associated with maintaining the sport's integrity.
