Ishaq
Ishaq (also known as Isaac) is a figure in the Abrahamic religions, being one of the sons of Abraham and the father of Jacob and Esau. In the Quran, Ishaq is considered a prophet and an ancestor of Muhammad.
Life[edit | edit source]
Ishaq was the son of Sarah and Abraham, born when they were both very old. According to the Bible, God promised Abraham that he would have a son with Sarah, and that this son would be the ancestor of a great nation. This promise was fulfilled with the birth of Ishaq.
Ishaq married Rebecca, and they had two sons, Esau and Jacob. The rivalry between these two sons and their descendants forms a major part of the narrative in the Book of Genesis.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Ishaq is revered as a prophet in Islam, and his story is recounted in several places in the Quran. He is also an important figure in Judaism and Christianity, being one of the Patriarchs of the Israelites.
