Israel Vibration
Israel Vibration is a reggae vocal harmony group from Jamaica. The group was formed in the late 1970s and is known for its roots reggae sound and socially conscious lyrics. The original members of the group were Cecil Spence (Skelly), Lascelle Bulgin (Wiss), and Albert Craig (Apple Gabriel).
History[edit | edit source]
Israel Vibration was formed by three childhood friends who met at a rehabilitation center for children affected by polio. Despite their physical challenges, they pursued their passion for music and began performing together. Their early work was influenced by the Rastafari movement and the socio-political environment of Jamaica during the 1970s.
The group's debut album, The Same Song, was released in 1978 and received critical acclaim. The album featured the hit single "The Same Song," which became an anthem for the Rastafari movement. Following the success of their debut, Israel Vibration released several more albums, including Unconquered People (1980) and Why You So Craven (1981).
In the mid-1980s, the group faced internal conflicts and eventually disbanded. However, they reunited in the early 1990s and continued to release new music and tour internationally. Despite the departure of Apple Gabriel in 1997, Skelly and Wiss have continued to perform and record as Israel Vibration.
Musical Style[edit | edit source]
Israel Vibration's music is characterized by its roots reggae sound, which includes heavy basslines, rhythmic guitar, and socially conscious lyrics. Their songs often address themes such as social justice, spirituality, and the struggles of the African diaspora. The group's vocal harmonies are a distinctive feature of their music, with each member contributing unique vocal styles.
