Jacket

It is an artificial non metallic restoration made of porcelain, used to cover the all surfaces of the clinical crown. They were made up of High-fusing feldspathic or aluminous porcelain baked on a thin platinum foil.

Indications

• For anterior teeth.
• For severely discolored anterior teeth.
• Over an existing post and core substructure.

Contraindications

• In posterior teeth (when maximum retention and resistance is needed)
• In case of tooth with short clinical crown.
• In case of edge to edge or overbite occlusion.
• As a retainer for FPD.

Advantages

• They have the best cosmetic effect of all the dental restorations.
• They are very strong.
• They suite best for the anterior teeth.

Disadvantages

• They have high risk of fracture (because they are brittle).
