Jallikattu (2019 film)
Jallikattu is a 2019 Indian Malayalam-language action film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film is based on the short story "Maoist" by S. Hareesh, who also co-wrote the screenplay with R. Jayakumar. The film stars Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, and Santhy Balachandran in pivotal roles.

The film is set in a remote village in Kerala, where a buffalo escapes from a slaughterhouse and creates havoc. The villagers, led by Kalan Varkey (Chemban Vinod Jose) and Antony (Antony Varghese), attempt to capture the animal. The situation escalates as the buffalo rampages through the village, leading to chaos and violence. The film explores themes of human nature, societal breakdown, and the primal instincts that surface in times of crisis.

Jallikattu premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019. It was later released in India on October 4, 2019. The film received critical acclaim for its direction, cinematography, and performances. It was selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, though it did not make the final shortlist.
