James City County, Virginia
James City County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 78,254. The county seat is Williamsburg, although the county is separate from the independent city of Williamsburg.

James City County was established in 1634 as one of the original eight shires of Virginia. It was named for King James I of England. The county has a rich history, including significant events during the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War.
Geography[edit | edit source]
James City County is located on the Virginia Peninsula in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. It is bordered by the York River to the north and the James River to the south. The county has a total area of 179 square miles, of which 144 square miles is land and 35 square miles is water.
