James Aloysius Farley (May 30, 1888 – June 9, 1976) was an influential American politician and business leader who played a pivotal role in the Democratic Party during the first half of the 20th century. He is best known for his role as the Postmaster General of the United States under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and as a key architect in Roosevelt's three successful presidential election campaigns.

James Farley was born in Grassy Point, New York, to a family of Irish descent. He attended local schools and later went on to study at Packard Business College in New York City, where he honed his skills in business and politics.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Farley's political career began in the early 1920s when he became involved in local politics in New York. His charisma and organizational skills quickly propelled him up the ranks of the Democratic Party. By the 1930s, he had become one of the most influential figures in national politics.
As the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Farley was instrumental in the election and re-election campaigns of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932, 1936, and 1940. His ability to manage and mobilize the Democratic vote was crucial in securing Roosevelt's landslide victories.
In 1933, Roosevelt appointed Farley as Postmaster General of the United States, a position he held until 1940. During his tenure, he implemented several reforms that modernized the United States Postal Service and improved its efficiency and service delivery.
