Fields began her career at McDonald's as a crew member in 1978. She quickly rose through the ranks, holding various positions including store manager, regional manager, and eventually, executive vice president. In 2010, she was appointed as the President of McDonald's USA, making her one of the highest-ranking women in the company's history.

During her tenure as President, Fields was responsible for the strategic direction and overall business results of the 14,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States. She played a key role in the implementation of the company's "Plan to Win" strategy, which focused on enhancing the customer experience through improved menu offerings, restaurant renovations, and innovative marketing strategies.
