Jax Brewing Company was a brewery located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was established in 1890 and became one of the most prominent breweries in the region. The company was known for its flagship beer, Jax Beer, which gained popularity throughout the Southern United States.

History[edit | edit source]

The Jax Brewing Company was founded by Jackson Brewing Company in 1890. The brewery was situated in the French Quarter of New Orleans, a location that contributed to its early success due to the high foot traffic and the area's cultural significance.

During the early 20th century, Jax Brewing Company expanded its operations and became a significant player in the regional beer market. The brewery survived Prohibition by producing "near beer" and other non-alcoholic products. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Jax Brewing Company resumed full-scale beer production and quickly regained its market share.

Products[edit | edit source]

The most famous product of Jax Brewing Company was Jax Beer, a lager that was well-received for its quality and taste. The brewery also produced other varieties of beer, including pilsners and ales, catering to a wide range of consumer preferences.

Decline and Closure[edit | edit source]

Despite its early success, Jax Brewing Company faced increasing competition from national breweries in the mid-20th century. The rise of large-scale breweries with more extensive distribution networks made it difficult for regional breweries like Jax to compete. In 1974, the brewery ceased operations, and the brand was eventually sold to the Pearl Brewing Company.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The original brewery building in the French Quarter has been repurposed and now houses shops, restaurants, and offices. The Jax Brewing Company remains a significant part of New Orleans' brewing history and is remembered for its contributions to the local culture and economy.
