Shawn Corey Carter (born December 4, 1969), known professionally as Jay-Z, is an American rapper, songwriter, record executive, and businessman. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists in history. Jay-Z is known for his innovative approach to music and his significant contributions to the hip hop genre.

Jay-Z was born and raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. He grew up in the Marcy Houses, a public housing project in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. His early life was marked by hardship and exposure to the drug trade, which would later influence his music.

Jay-Z began his music career in the late 1980s and co-founded the record label Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995. His debut album, Reasonable Doubt, was released in 1996 and is now considered a classic in the hip-hop genre. Business Ventures[edit | edit source]
Jay-Z is also a successful entrepreneur. He founded the clothing line Rocawear in 1999 and the luxury sports bar chain 40/40 Club in 2003. In 2008, he co-founded the entertainment company Roc Nation, which manages artists, athletes, and other entertainers. Jay-Z also has investments in various industries, including technology, real estate, and beverages.

Jay-Z married singer Beyoncé in 2008. The couple has three children: Blue Ivy, and twins Rumi and Sir. They are known for their significant influence in the music industry and their philanthropic efforts.

Jay-Z has received numerous awards throughout his career, including 23 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
