Jay Catherwood Hormel (July 9, 1892 – November 30, 1954) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He is best known for his role as the president of the Hormel Foods Corporation, a leading food processing company.

Jay Catherwood Hormel was born on July 9, 1892, in Austin, Minnesota. He was the son of George A. Hormel, the founder of Hormel Foods Corporation. Jay Hormel grew up in a family deeply involved in the meatpacking industry, which laid the foundation for his future career.
Hormel attended Yale University, where he studied business administration. He graduated with honors and returned to Minnesota to join his father's company.

After completing his education, Hormel joined the Hormel Foods Corporation in 1917. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the president of the company in 1929. Under his leadership, Hormel Foods Corporation experienced significant growth and expansion.
One of Hormel's notable achievements was the invention of the canned meat product known as Spam. Introduced in 1937, Spam became a popular food item during World War II due to its long shelf life and versatility.
